Battery/Energy Storage Testing & Advisory Services
Intertek has a full suite of services for all battery types and sizes.

Intertek is your single source solution for All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) testing according to the the ANSI/SVIA -1-2007 standard.

We have been a leader in product safety and performance testing for over 100 years, serving industries such as automotive, off-road transportation and heavy equipment. ATV suppliers or importers into the United States may also wish to take advantage of Intertek’s global lab network in Asia to develop a program of inspections of ATVs at the point of manufacture.

The ANSI/SVIA -1-2007 standard was written by the Specialty Vehicle Institute of America and the American National Standards Institute, and provides requirements for four wheel ATVs. Intertek offers the complete scope of testing called out within The ANSI/SVIA -1-2007 standard:

  • Inspection of ATVs for compliance with respect to the all of the features required by ANSI / SVIA.
  • Performance testing of the ATVs including maximum speed capability, brake performance and pitch stability.
  • Noise level measurements to Title 40 CFR Part 205.
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) to Directive 72/245/EEC – 2004/104/EC.
  • Testing of Lighting Equipment to appropriate SAE standards including SAE J1623 headlamps, SAE J585 tail lamps, SAE J586 or SAE J278 stop lamps as required.
  • Lead testing to CPSIA (Consumer Product Safety Information Act) requirements; consumer products intended for children 12 and under cannot have more than 600 parts per million of lead in any accessible part.

Effective April 13, 2009, the ATV provisions of the CPSIA require that any new ATV sold in the U.S. be subject to an action plan – a written protocol that prescribes steps the ATV maker or seller must take to ensure ATV safety, such as rider training, distribution of safety information and appropriate age recommendations. Each new ATV offered for sale must bear a label certifying its compliance with the applicable action plan, and future ATV action plans must be approved by the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission).
