Meet Our People: Dr Allan Stewart

Dr Allan Stewart B.Sc. Ph.D. CSci. C.Chem. MRSC Business Development Manager

With a degree in chemistry, a PhD in and a postdoctoral fellowship in catalysis at Queen's University, Belfast, Allan Stewart joined ICI's Corporate Laboratory to continue in catalysis research, specialising in synthesis, characterisation and catalysis involving novel high-silica zeolites, and supported metal catalysts.

Later, in the then Chemical Products business, Allan was Global Technical Manager for ICI's Refrigeration Lubricants business during the R&D, approvals and early commercialisation phases.  After this, he managed the Molecular Spectroscopy team in MSG before moving to his current role, using the business experience gained previously.  Now, he handles Intertek MSG's business development and looks after commercial relationships with customers.

As someone who managed R&D programmes in the ICI businesses, he has a clear insight into what customers want from a group like MSG - firstly, Quality in terms of Work and Delivery and secondly, Value for their businesses. Allan is happy to hear any request or expression of interest from customers or prospective clients, seeking to win their business and consolidating relationships technically and commercially. "It's basically about belief and trust," says Allan. "Belief that MSG can do what's necessary and trust that it will do it when asked. There aren't many things we can't take on in the chemicals and materials fields and the folks in MSG produce some terrific results. It's great to see new customers develop their belief and trust in us."
